Leads are the fuel an MLM network marketing business runs on.  You cannot expect to be successful if you do not create, or borrow, a good MLM lead generation plan. 

Before the Internet, offline lead generation was the only real choice and it proved to be the cause of the end for many MLM businesses.  Most people new to MLM and network marketing had no concept of lead generation as a science, or even an art. 

With the Internet, lead generation has actually gotten much easier; but simply due to ignorance on the part of most new MLM entrepreneurs and their recruiters, there is no matching growth in success rates.

When approached properly, however, there are plenty of opportunities for forming quality leads and building a successful MLM business using the internet.

An MLM network marketing business is based on leads, but what IS a lead?

In its simplest form, a lead is a person who you can present your opportunity or product to.  As you can imagine, there are good leads and poor leads.  Anyone you hand a brochure to or show your website to is, to some extent a lead. 

You cannot discount any contact because, as any experienced network marketer can tell you, there is no telling when a chance, or even off-the-wall, contact may turn into a loyal customer or a powerful member of your downline.

However, in terms of effective use of time and resources, the hunt should be for good quality leads.  These are people who have at least a passing interest in your particular product or MLM business opportunities in general.

The importance of good quality leads cannot be stressed enough, but where do these leads come from, and should you try for customers or business partners?

In an MLM network marketing business a person needs two types of leads in order to make a profit.

They must first get leads on potential customers who are interested and wanting to buy the product. 

Second they must get leads on other people who are interested in being part of the MLM business itself. 

The leads for customers help to turn the initial profit while the leads for new business partners helps build the residual income that make MLM’s a great business. 

If a person fails to get both types of leads they will not be able to build the MLM business they desire.

This does not mean, however, that it is wrong to concentrate on one type of lead from time to time.  If, for example, I have a lot of product being sold to my customers, it may be time for me to concentrate on building my downline. 

In fact, the size of my income from personal sales could even be a recruiting tool when talking to potential business partners. 

On a slightly different note, in many MLM network marketing businesses, one of the best pools of potential downline members is found within your group of satisfied customers.  Wherever we find them however, in this world of the Internet, we cannot ignore offline leads.

Offline MLM leads are usually obtained in one of three ways.

The first would be leads that are family, friends or people the person knows.  These people are generally referred to as their "warm market".  These leads are usually the easiest to get, but closeness does not guarantee success. 

The second is by placing ads which result in interested people calling the business owner.  These leads are also fairly hassle free, but the results can be somewhat disappointing.

In the days before the "no call" list, the third method was by telemarketing calls. However, even if you can avoid the pitfalls of violating the regulations, telemarketing is difficult and can be costly. 

If a person does not have any experience they could end up getting few, if any, results from telemarketing attempts.

Offline MLM lead generation takes a lot of work and produces less than desirable results, and is best done in combination with online MLM lead generation.

Online MLM lead generation can happen in a variety of ways.

One of the easiest is by capturing names and emails off the business website.  This sort of site is often referred to as a "lead capture page". 

By offering free information such as a newsletter, or a free service or sample, people can more likely be induced to give this information. 

You can also write articles relevant to your product, service, or field and submit them to various article directories.  These articles can contain useful information that the target market needs or wants and includes the business owner's contact information and website link. 

Leads generated online in this manner may be considered warm leads.  The people already know something about the business and are interested.  They are giving permission to be contacted. 

An added bonus with this is that you avoid the problem of spam when you have the individual’s permission to contact them.  When done right, online MLM lead generation is not pushy and produces good quality leads, i.e. people who really are interested in the MLM business or product.

Verizon wireless has billboards and instantly recognizable TV ads.  These are seen by thousands, perhaps millions of their "leads" daily. 

For the average MLM network marketer, however, lead generation is the bread and butter of a successful MLM business.  As stated previously, to be successful a person must build or borrow a good lead generating process. 

By using a combination of offline and online methods a person will get the best results.  The goal is good qualified leads that will lead to a sale or a new MLM business partner.

9 Steps To Creating A Successful
Website For Network Marketers

If you're a network marketer, or affiliate marketer, you will stand a much better chance of long term success if you build a website. It helps develop credibility with your prospects, and when it's done right, it can even provide you with a steady stream of leads from the search engines.

For many people, building a website may seem like a daunting task. It doesn't need to be, however. There are a lot of WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editors that take care of the 'behind the scenes' HTML coding.

So, what are the steps in creating a site?

1. You need to decide on a subject, or theme.

You probably have a broad theme of 'online business', or 'work at home' in mind. However, try and look at the different types of prospects you might like to attract. What are their interests?

This can help in narrowing a topic down a bit. However, you might like to target a broad area too. Just be sure not to include too many 'irrelevant' areas. You can always build other sites for that.

Another way to look at finding a topic for your site is to consider what the main product is. If it's a health product, you might want to build a health related site.

This way you can sell products to customers, build a list of subscribers, and they may well be interested in developing a business themselves. Above all, though - be creative (and do your keyword research)!

2. You need a Domain name

Pick a domain name that says something about your business, whilst preferably containing your main keyword. It is usually best to pick a 2 or 3 word phrase. But it's not necessary (or really desirable) to separate the words by dashes.

3. You need to organize the structure of your site

Your site should have a logical structure so visitors will find what they are looking for. Whilst it goes without saying, many people create sites that have very poor usability and navigation. Have your subject organized in your own mind before you start the website. This can really help keep the final product clear.

4. You need keywords to build articles around

Keyword focused articles help increase your chance of ranking well in the search engines, provided they are chosen well. They provide a way of helping the search bots identify what a page is about, and they can also provide a good source of inspiration for the articles themselves. Wordtracker is a good source of keywords.

5. You need web hosting

There are some packages that come with webhosting and a web builder. If you don't know HTML, and find the prospect of transferring files to the server daunting, this is a good option to explore.

6. You need to upload your site to your web host

7. You need a way of capturing visitor's name and email address

This will allow you to start building a relationship with your subscribers, your prospects. It's an excellent way to gently introduce people to your opportunity, and you can also make money by referring other good products you come across. Best of all, this list is yours.

8. You need a follow-up system that is automated

Autoresponders allow you to have a system in place that follows up with your prospects automatically, over time, providing them with the good content you write, and gently introducing them to your business offers.

9. You need to start driving traffic to your site.

This is a big subject, but there are a number of very effective ways to send traffic to your site, irrespective of the search engines (though some of them will help in your search engine rankings too). Articles, and exchanging links are two no-cost ways of building a steady stream of traffic, and they also help get your site indexed.

MLM Success is something we all strive for, but in that yearning for success in MLM, the one thing that gets most overlooked is the huge part played in programming your mind for MLM success.

Scientific evidence is proving that the correct mindset for success can bring you straight to the top! 

Unfortunately, I have seen people fail to achieve the success they desired in MLM because they have spent years programming their mind for failure.

I can’t help what I feel!

Oh yes you can!  More and more research is showing if you want success, you had better change what you feel!  Did you know that a single thought, positive or negative, changes the chemistry in our brains causing us to feel happy or sad?

If you’re mind is filled with predominately negative or worrisome thoughts, guess what chemicals will be released into your brain?  I can assure you it’s not the happy ones!

This also happens when you are reliving emotionally charged events in your mind.  Your brain can’t discern between what it happening now and what happened previously.

When you are spending precious time reliving negative past events in your head, your mind thinks it’s happening again.  This causes a vicious cycle of negative thoughts and bad brain chemistry.

Is this good for MLM success?

A soupy mess or a sunny place?

Have you ever noticed that some people walk around with a black cloud over their head, while others seem to never have anything bad happen?

Spend a little time talking to each one of them and I’m sure you’ll immediately notice a difference in their thoughts and attitudes. 

The black cloud person will tell you about problem after problem while the happy go lucky person will talk about how wonderful everything is!

The fact of the matter is both people have problems but one dwells on them while the other doesn’t.  

Just imagine what each person’s brain chemistry looks like! 

One mind is a soupy mess with negative chemistry while the other mind is a sunny place to live!

Who do you think has the better business?

Change your thoughts and your world will change!

The previous example is a bit extreme, most people fit somewhere in the middle.  However, it illustrates the important need to keep your thoughts positive and how, scientifically, we can now see why.

Sometimes it’s easy to fall into the habit of negative thinking.  We are surrounded everyday by negative people, negative news, and negative situations. 

I know people who feel that if they are happy something must be wrong!

Do yourself a favor, turn off the TV, if you hear someone speaking negatively, excuse yourself and walk away, don’t let that garbage into your mind! 

Be aware of what goes into your mind as though it were a precious baby absorbing everything it hears.  It does!

When you can start breaking the chains of negativity in your mind, starting with what you’re feeding it from the outside world, you will begin the wonderful journey of programming your mind for MLM success!
