Should You Hire Help for Your Direct Sales Business?

Direct sales is popular for a lot of reasons. You can get support from your upline. You can get into a business that already has an established name, which can help you with your sales efforts.

Great products in an area youre interested in. You can sell to family, friends, acquaintances, anyone you come into contact with who likes your products.

Theres a lot you can do just on a local level. You can go to craft or other vendor fairs. You can give your business card out at the drop of a hat... or without a hat dropping. You can build a mailing list of past customers and market to them.

But theres another level to take it to, one you might find intimidating at first, but that can be very much worth your efforts. You can market online.

This is where you may need to hire help. Marketing online is very different from marketing in the real world. Youll have to check the companys policies on having your own website and what you can say about the product there.

Now many companies provide you with a website as a subdomain of their website. Thats nice, but its not going to attract traffic on those merits.

You need to have your own site, one that you have complete control over. This will allow you to put your own, unique touches to your site, making your efforts stand out to potential customers.

But unless you are comfortable with making a website, it may be in your best interests to hire someone to do the work for you, or at least to make the basic design for you.

You may also want help in marketing that site, help in answering basic emails that dont need your personal attention and so forth.

There are a lot of things that may not be your strength or that you would do better to have someone else work on for you. And so hiring a virtual assistant to work on these things for you may be a good idea.

Your website should do more than offer tips on your products or telling people how to buy them or join your opportunity. It should offer visitors a way to contact you, so that they can get personal attention as needed.

You can make general recommendations on your website, but a personal touch is very nice. And you dont need to expose your email address to spammers if you use a contact form instead.

Of course theres more to hiring help than getting a website up. Your assistant can help you with bookkeeping, sending out materials to customers and downline, preparing sales material and so forth.

All things you would have to do otherwise, but it could be more profitable to pay someone else to handle these details for you.

Theres no rule saying you have to hire help for your direct sales business. However it can be a tremendous help when it comes to growing your business and in using your time wisely.

Focus - A Key Word For Network Marketers

Just about every network marketer has heard many times, presented in many different ways, that the road to network marketing success requires being involved with lots of different Companies doing lots of different things. 

You have all heard way too much talk about ‘multiple streams of income’.  That may sound good, but in reality, this method only leads to multiple streams of OUT-going money.  Just talk with most anyone who has tried this approach.

So, what should you do? 

Since ‘multiple’ does not appear to work, may I suggest a better option? 

Simplify and narrow your focus to a single arena. 

Here are some steps I would suggest:

First - Choose carefully one really good Company

This should be a Company with a strong record of success that values you as an important member of their team.  Study their policies and procedure statements and look for any problem areas or things you do not understand. 

Ask questions and learn about their business models.  Then, build only with this one Company with folks you can trust, who will reward you well for the work you do.

Next – Get all the training you can 

Learn the skills you need to build for success.  Learn from wise mentors and then learn how to mentor the people who join under you.  Understand that every occupation requires specific skills.  Don’t try to do something you have not learned how to do. 

Also, study the products or services you will be marketing.  Become an expert in just one or two product areas, and then only talk to folks who need these products or services.

Lastly – Understand that there is a good reason it is called ‘network’ marketing

Work diligently and consistently.   Realize that network marketing is not a sales business, but rather a relationship building business. 

Focus on how you, and the products or services you market, will help your prospects solve a problem they are experiencing.

Focus on their needs, not your desires, and success should come your way.

Network Marketing is  a vibrant industry offering employment to over 43 million people worldwide with a turnover exceeding $ 75 billion in worldwide sales of products and services as per the figures of the World Federation of Direct Sales Association (WFDSA),  a body regulating the conduct of business on ethical lines and all members are bound by this code of conduct.

Worldwide the Direct selling industry is gaining ground as it helps to eliminate multi layered distribution network and costly advertising. 

The profits thus generated help in reducing the cost of the product and help Direct Selling agents to make money for themselves and the organization they create.

Paul Zane Pilsner a renowned economist and author of New York Times Best sellers such as 'Unlimited Wealth' and 'The Next Trillion Dollar' describes Network Marketing as Intellectual Distribution educating consumers about products and services that will improve their lives, products, and services that they didn't already know existed.

The Network Marketing requires one important criteria-that is to be a product user oneself and then promote the products based on ones own benefits and convictions, unlike conventional marketing where many of the products are never used by a person promoting them.

The Network Marketing is currently a subject of much debate due to some unscrupulous companies exploiting the lack of awareness of Networking Marketing or MLM as it is commonly called.

WFDSA has put out detailed guidelines for the network marketing companies on ethical conduct of business.  All DSAs that are members of the WFDSA pledge to abide by the World Codes of Conduct as a minimum standard of ethical behavior

They are strictly prohibited from forming pyramid schemes which pull in money from unwary consumers on tall promises of big money and benefit few people, schemes which do not have quality product or services meeting with local laws and paying money for recruitments.

WFDSA also has very detailed guidelines for choosing the right opportunity, the questions to be asked before choosing an opportunity and verifying the antecedents of the company that one wishes to join. 

There are legal counsels worldwide with whom complaints can be lodged in the event of any malpractices or complaints about the companies.  But for all these safeguards to work one must join business opportunities offered by companies which are members of the WFDSA. 

There are country chapters or associations which are in turn members of WFDSA subscribing to the Better Business Practices.  The addresses may be had at the WFDSA website.

Direct selling provides important benefits to individuals who desire an opportunity to earn an income and build a business of their own especially in the current scenario of rampant unemployment; to consumers who enjoy an alternative to shopping in crowded market, difficulties of traveling in congested roads and parking places or the like; and to the consumer products market.

It offers an alternative to traditional employment for those who desire a flexible income earning opportunity to supplement their household income, or whose responsibilities or circumstances do not allow for regular part-time or full time employment.

In many cases, direct selling opportunities develop into a fulfilling career for those who achieve success and choose to pursue their independent direct selling business on a full time basis.

As in every business this industry is also beset with unscrupulous elements trying to cash in on the new opportunities. 

The people buying products should thoroughly verify and ask for proof of compliance with local laws, company background, and exhaustive testimonials on product usage claims before buying these products. 

The quickest way to assess the company is the length of time they have been in business.  Any company with over a decade in the business is certain to have met all requirements as otherwise they may not have survived for so long.

Similarly people wishing to join the business opportunity must make sure that the entry into the business is inexpensive and any investments should only be on products and the quantity of stocking should be purely on what you can sell within a reasonable period of time say a 15 day inventory. 

Stocking should not be done on the basis of income claims or lure of higher positions.  It is very important not to be swayed with huge income claims. 

Please remember that all business can be developed only on principles of hard work ethics, and bringing value to the customers and income can be generated only with good products and not on mere recruitments.
