Warming Up Your Cold Market Are you finding that prospecting and working your "cold market" is getting chillier these days? I've noticed this, especially in the last year. When I contact people who had responded to an advertisement that my company ran, it is much more difficult to establish rapport than it used to be! I've been quite surprised to see how much more closed and suspicious people have been compared to when I made phone calls just a year ago. Perhaps the challenges in today's world have made their impact on people. They are more fearful, less likely to trust someone they don't know. How do you build rapport and build your network marketing business in times like this? You will need a little more patience, but if you persevere and follow these five basic network marketing strategies, you can warm up even the chilliest of cold markets! First, I'd like to review the basic network marketing strategies that create successful organizations. It's important to understand that the people who excel in network marketing have a large circle of influence. A circle of influence means that there are a lot of people that know you, like you and trust you. If you don't already have a large circle of influence, and you want to succeed in network marketing, you're going to need to build one! How do you build a circle of influence? One person at a time! It is always best to start with people that you know. Contact them and ask them know for referrals. Participate in your community, attend Chamber of Commerce events, and hold local meetings. You develop yourself into a leader both personally and professionally, to attract other like minded professionals. Online, you do the same in the internet community. You build a presence on the internet with a newsletter list or blog (or both) or website, so that you can build a relationship with people. You provide a way that they can get to know you... like an online photo album, and a personal "Get to Know Me" page. These are the basics of good network marketing. Once you've contacted the people that you know, you will want to expand your circle of influence even further and get to know some new people! You can do this through advertising or through hiring a network marketing ad agency to advertise for you. Now, how do you handle today's increasingly chilly cold market? Well, you need to take more time to WARM IT UP!!! Here are six network marketing strategies for warming up your cold market. 1. Whenever possible, use offline advertising sources such as postcards, newspapers, radio or TV. These prospects see your ad several times before responding, and are usually MUCH more highly qualified. If your ad is credible, people will trust you more easily. 2. If you must use internet advertising, be sure to use an established and proven leads source which includes the use of an e-mail autoresponder. This will allow you to contact people via e-mail legitimately, without spam complaints. If you are very serious about generating leads online, I recommend you create or purchase your own lead generating website. This takes time but is a lifelong investment if done correctly. 3. When you reach a person by phone, don't rush the relationship building process. Find out what they are looking for, ask good questions, and really listen. Don't be pushy, focus on their needs. If you're new at working your cold market, team up with a successful leader in your upline who is experienced. 4. Offer something of value that is free like a report, eBook or consultation, that will both qualify and educate your prospect and that will also introduce you as part of the process. For example, on your free report include a link to your online photo album and your biography or "Get to Know Me" page. 5. Follow up several times to build familiarity and credibility with your prospect. Use an autoresponder to help you in this, but don't depend on it. There is nothing like a good, old fashioned conversation to build trust. Sending a postcard in the mail also helps a lot! 6. Be a real person. Tell, don't sell! Avoid sales pitches, instead, share your own story. Network marketing is about being your authentic best self. Let your heart and your integrity shine, and people will remember you and trust you. When they are ready to try your product or join your team, they will call you! About The Author: Tarama Esgoode has been network marketing since 2001. She writes about http://www.homebizhearts.com

What If You Hate Selling? I've heard a lot of people say that they LOVE the idea of having a home business but that they HATE selling stuff! You might be able to relate to this. I've been doing business from my home for a while now and there are some parts of the business that I just LOVE and that come naturally, like talking with people, listening, and teaching ... And there are some aspects of it that have always been more of a challenge, namely the whole notion of letting people know about my products! This used to be such a problem for me that I actually quit the business not once, not twice, but THREE times, because I decided that I am not very good at "selling stuff". Can you relate to this? You love the idea of owning your business, and get excited thinking about the potential, and then when you get down to the "nitty gritty" of how you make money, it all comes down to the BOTTOM LINE ... You've got to promote your product, opportunity, or service!! Well gosh, if you hate selling are you doomed to a life of being stuck in the employee 9 to 5 grind? Not necessarily! There IS another way. Recently I had a HUGE insight ... a real breakthrough, about "selling stuff". Maybe this will help you if you're a little squeamish about promoting your business, product or service. In started in the mid 1990's when I was making my first forays into the land of home based business. I wasn't used to thinking of myself as a business person. To be honest, I felt like a fish OUT of water!! My very first business was a fantastic success until the company I represented went out of business. Ouch! Determined to do better next time, I read, researched, studied, went to trainings, and guess what? Over the next three years, I started, worked and FAILED in a grand total of FOUR network marketing business ventures! Eeeegads!!! :( I won't go into the gory details of when, where and why, but the bottom line is that obviously something was missing! I set about to find that missing piece. One big "aha" experience happened in 2001 when I found the internet. After that long "dry spell" I FINALLY began to make money again! However, I found that one thing was still missing though in this otherwise wonderful picture. I wasn't quite sure how to tell people about my products! I was getting hung up on the big "S"... "Selling Stuff"! I studied, took courses on marketing, and still couldn't find "the groove". Not knowing what else to do, I prayed for a solution. It is my habit to bring my all of my life, including my business, before God and Spirit. The answer I got wasn't in the "packaging" I expected. In December I became sick for almost 2 months. Nothing serious, just annoying, intractable, and very unusual for me. Several of my business partners were talking about a new health discovery from the rainforest with a ton of healing properties. So I read some info, and it really knocked my socks off! After going through the scientific research, and the list of healing properties, I realized that this could help me and almost everyone I know! Something in my heart "clicked", and I found myself staying up at night, thinking of all the people I love who could benefit from this. There were at several HUNDRED people who came to my mind that I wanted to share this with ... that I had NEVER felt moved to share my other wonderful products with!! Okay, okay well you have probably figured this out. Finally I realized that I just HAD to tell people about this new product!! Well first I had to try it for myself of course. My sickness went away, and my joint pain too! (Hadn't expected that!) It's funny, I am not a habitually guilty person but in this situation, I felt guilty getting excited about products that weren't part of my own company ... But I felt MORE guilty in NOT telling everyone I know about this brand new discovery!! Eventually I worked through these feelings and "jumped" into the great unknown. I began promoting the new product, and yes, you can probably guess what happened next, right? Yes, in one month I did MORE business with the new product than it had taken me a YEAR to build with my other products! And the best part is, I DID get want I prayed for. I never ONCE worried about "selling stuff". What happened? What made the difference? Here's the secret ... I WASN'T thinking about me!! I wasn't thinking about my business, my product, my income, my goals. Instead, I was thinking about all the friends and loved ones I could help!! This happened quite naturally. Not through "trying" to be altruistic. I wasn't TRYING to "sell stuff", I was REALLY excited!! Network marketing, or any marketing really, comes NATURALLY when you are deeply, passionately excited about what you are offering. When you are passionate and CONNECTED with what you are doing, it's not work, it's NATURAL! When it's NATURAL, you're not self conscious. You're in the flow, in the present moment, you're thinking about others... you're in the ZONE! :-) So you see the moral of the story is... If you want to have a home based business, but you HATE selling stuff... Then FIND something that you are PASSIONATE about to promote! Find something that is NATURAL for you to love ... something that you feel deeply CONNECTED to... something that other people REALLY want and NEED. And then GO FORTH into the world and prosper!! :-) About The Author: Tamara Esgoode has been network marketing since 2001 and writes for Home Based Networketing With Heart at http://www.HomeBizHearts.com Editors note: Below are some of the tools I personally use and recommend. I don't refuse because I may want to do that MLM also, or at least give it a run with a certain group of people to see how it goes. OR I may join because I want to do business with that person in the future. Especially with people that have a large list of MLMers that are offline or who know people who have such lists. In Japan it's called "Giri Ninjyo". A bit like giving chocolates to the boss on Valentines day. Even though there is no love involved the thought is there. Sometimes I'll join a friend’s MLM if I want the products. Products are normally cheaper that way. Then if I like one of the products I may promote it to product orientated groups or companies that can promote it within their cliental without breaking the MLM rules. I ask for a downline if I can't see advantages in joining the new MLM. This way the products are free and if the group moves then I'll train and increase the group. If the pay plan is a binary then the request will be to have people on both left and right legs to put me in profit from the start. The idea is not to have someone give me a big downline, just enough to cover the monthly costs of joining their MLM. The benefit for them is that they will have someone who knows a lot of big players with big lists plus someone who can train that group. Perhaps this all gets back to whether a person should stick with just one MLM or not. I just happen to be a person who likes to put their eggs in more than one basket if it happens to suit me. I have my main MLM (a binary) but my job is sometimes to "Fit the MLM to the person and not the person to the MLM" so it's advantageous to have more than one screw driver in the tool box. My main MLM has online tools for online MLMers, but this will not cover my neighbors weight problem or excite a person with a huge offline list of prospects. So I'm always open to listening to MLM presentations from friends and if I can help them and me, a win win situation, then I'll join their MLM. If it's not a win win situation then I give them real reasons, ones that they can fix if they really want me. Some people treat their MLM like a religion, one thought, one God etc or a place just to make friends. That’s fine !? I like to treat MLM like a business.
